Referral Services

If you have a pension problem and have been unable to find help through a pension counseling project or a government agency, you may want to contact a lawyer or actuary. Two no-cost referral services specifically designed to help individuals find professionals are:

National Pension Lawyer Network (NPLN)

The National Pension Lawyer Network is a nationwide referral service administered by the Pension Action Center of the University of Massachusetts Boston to provide assistance to workers, retirees, and their families in pension and other retirement plan matters on a regular-fee, reduced-fee, and pro bono (no fee) basis.

Pension Assistance List (PAL)

The Pension Assistance List, or "PAL," is a nationwide referral service created by the American Academy of Actuaries to help individuals needing assistance with benefit calculations and comparisons. PAL actuaries and consultants generally charge for their services but will offer up to four hours of free help.
